How to Host a Jolly Christmas Party

So you know that Christmas is already expensive enough from the parties you attend to the parties you host. Guess what? It’s that time of year where everything you have worked so hard for doesn’t go as far as you would like it. This year I may have bitten more than I can chew in hosting Christmas lunch at my place, in regards to the budget that is. I have lists upon lists and I will have over 30 family members knocking at my door on Christmas Day. However, I wasn’t going to give in too quickly and after a night of manic searching, Google had the answers to my questions. I found out that there are so many people in the same situation and I actually got some awesome ideas that will help me out. Here are just a few: 1. Take people up on their offer to bring something Part of me feels awkward about this, however when thinking back on past occasions it’s fair to say that people feel awkward for turning up empty handed – does the Favourites commercial ring a bell? Help them help you and if your guests ask you what to bring, be up front and suggest something that you know they are comfortable in bringing. 2. Decorations Don’t go overboard with decorations how ever tempting as they may be. In all honesty after a few moments of admiring them your guests will go straight for the food, or continue with their conversations regardless if there are 1000 snowflakes hanging from the ceiling or not. Head down to the dollar store, have a list prepared and stick to it for a non-over the top decor. 3. Prepare your menu in advance First and for most choose a menu that is filling rather than options that are pretty or just sound good. Preparing your menu in advance also gives you the opportunity to shop around for specials.First and for most choose a menu that is filling rather than options that are pretty or just sound good. Drinks Save a bit of money on soft drinks or spirits by asking some of the guests attending the party to bring a bottle or 2. It’s usually common courtesy to bring a drink as a “house gift” anyway so make sure to not over budget for alcohol. 5. Entertainment Usually during Christmas you don’t have to hire a band or a karaoke machine, Christmas in itself is enough that guests can entertain each other. It really is about sharing this special day with loved ones. HOWEVER, why not have an unforgettable Christmas party with little games that will have everyone involved. Games similar to celebrity heads but where each person has the name on their back and you are allowed to ask them yes or no questions. Background music? Connect your iPod to your speakers and have some fun! Better yet, tell your guests to bring their music collection for a day of different genres and this even makes everyone get involved – hey you may even end up discovering a new genre. And there we have it folks, a few suggestions that really helped me out and hopefully you too. By the way, I called the invitees last night and asked for them to either bring a dish or some drinks and bam we are on the right track for a magical Christmas party ourselves.
