Out and About on Australia Day

Most of us on the long weekend will either be attending a BBQ or have left the city with the family to have a quick getaway, either way Australia Day long weekend never seems to disappoint us. It’s almost the Australian NYE of planning and partying like never before. Having a little one though, it’s not just about the day it’s about the whole weekend. I went searching for activities and it’s safe to say all around Australia the festivities are truly happening. Havaianas 2014 Australia Day Thong Challenge Every year, the states battle it out to see who can set the new world record for the longest line of giant inflatable Havaianas on the ocean. This is pretty awesome and it is happening at Mooloolaba QLD, Bondi NSW, Torquay VIC, Glenelg SA, and Cottesloe WA. Get a group of mates together and register today. Sharing the Sizzle Darling Harbour hosts the nation’s biggest harbourside party on the 26th of January. Free entertainment including Indigenous blues, colonial rock, Assyrian grooves, kid shows and fireworks…..doesn’t get much better than this. The Parklands South Bank, QLD The South Bank Parklands will come alive with music, art, family entertainment, markets and amazing fireworks display. Bring your family and friends and celebrate Australia Day in style. Australia Day in the City Free event held in Elder Park SA . This is one of the largest Day parades in the country starting at 6pm and 7pm the concert starts featuring Timomatic who will be supported by Sarah De Bono. The concert will be followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Dash to Docklands The MS Colour Dash is part of the official program of events for Australia Day in Victoria and is a home-grown, non-profit event to raise much needed funds for the 23,000 Australians living with multiple sclerosis.  Register online now and have some colourful fun this Australia Day. Skyworks This year marks the 30th anniversary of the City of Perth Skyworks. Events will include a free Entertainment Zone on Langley Park, Air and Water Show will entertain above and on the Swan River, Survival Perth in Supreme Court Gardens and of course the spectacular Skyworks fireworks finale which will include a special laser and water show visible from Langley Park and South Perth. Whatever the fun there is to have it shouldn’t be too difficult on the budget. Remember to set a budget for the day out and stick to it.
